Biography

Australian soprano Bella Marslen is a member of the Royal College of Music International Opera School studying with Janis Kelly. She is an Andrew Treagus Scholar, a Mimi and Colin Watts Scholar and a recipient of a 2025 Tait Memorial Trust Award donated by Sallie Johnston. 

 

Bella was a 2022/2023 Young Artist and Bendat Scholar with West Australian Opera and a 2024 Wigmore French Song Exchange Artist. She made her recital debut at the Wigmore Hall in London and the Salle Cortot in Paris. She was delighted to return to the Wigmore Hall in June 2025 with the Royal College of Music in recital to celebrate the life and repertoire of Mel Bonis. 

Performed roles include “Lauretta” and “Una Conversa” - Gianni Schicchi/Suor Angelica by Puccini (2021, Freeze Frame Opera), “Soprano Soloist” - Bach Easter Oratorio by Bach (2023, West Australian Opera), “First Wood Sprite” - Rusalka by Dvořák (2024, West Australian Opera), "Barbarina" - Le Nozze di Figaro by Mozart (2025, Royal College of Music), “Angel” - Seven Angels by Dove (2025, Royal College of Music), “The Vixen” - The Cunning Little Vixen by Janáček (2025, Royal College of Music) and "Serpetta" - La Finta Giardiniera by Mozart (2026, Royal College of Music).  ​

Accolades include the 2026 Royal Over-Seas League Commonwealth Final Tait Memorial Trust Prize (London), the 2026 Clonter Opera Awards Audience Prize, a 2024 Joan Sutherland & Richard Bonynge Bel Canto Award Finalist Prize, a 2023 Australian Music Foundation award, the 2023 Bloomhouse Projects Emerging Artist (Dr. Ken Collins AO Award), first prize in the 2020 Opera Lovers Aria Competition, the 2020 WAAPA Dame Mary Gilmore Award, first prize in the 2020 Royal Over-Seas League Art Song Prize (Perth), the 2017 WAAPA 1st Year Singing Prize and the 2017 Royal Over-Seas League Junior Singing Award (Perth).
